First Thailand, then Laos, Vietnam, then overland Cambodia back to Bangkok to fly out. Managed to get a bit of a mix of photos and tales, having cheap internet cafes makes life a lot easier :)

Stopover on slow boat trip

The two (seemingly prepubescent) kids who organised my visa in to Laos

It's a little disconcerting that an hour in to the trip, the boat starts to rock madly from side to side, sounding like the propeller is grinding against rocks.  You'd be inclined to just accept that this is normal, and everything will be alright except for the fact that locals were praying, and the captain had a look of terror on his face.  We got out of it though.... only a day and half of this left ;)  I later learned that another boat the previous day had capsized and the people had to camp on the beach nearby or get accommodated by the local villagers.  I don't know if that is more worrying than the fact that there were stalls readily available because it was a common thing!

Nothing to this town really, you're offered a guesthouse and a smoke, see rats in the restaurant but eat there anyway. It's a place to sleep and not a lot more
