Heading up to Bakheng hill for the sunset, you can go up by elephant if you don't want to brave the steps

Since I'm flying out of Bangkok on June 2nd I've had to accelerate the pace of travelling and will absolutely fly through Cambodia.  Even though I quite liked Phnom Penh, probably my favourite capital city that I've seen on the travels, I had to jump on to a bus to Siam Reap.

There's a few times to choose from, obviously 7 a.m. is just stupid, so 8:30 was the winner and saw me in to Siam Reap about 6 hours later.  I discovered chatting to some other travellers that if you head out and buy a day pass to Angkor Wat the day before you want to go, you can then watch the sunset from one of the temples for free so that was the plan of attack here. Made sure my room here had air-con since I knew I'd appreciate it after sweating around temples tomorrow.

Sunset was quite spectacular, but it wasn't "over" the temples as I was expecting, sunrise is the one needed to get the temple in to the photo.  I talked to some people that were going to get up for the sunrise the following morning, but as it turns out the sun rises really early.  Seriuosly, it's like at dawn ;) I chose not to wake up at a stupid time, and many people who did said that it wasn't actually that good so I feel justified.  Chatted to a Danish girl up there and ended up heading out for dinner with her and her Baptist minister ex-Phillipino tour guides which was certainly interesting!
