Nha Trang - Day 2

Nha Trang is set up as a base for divers and for beach-goers. Now the only catch with that is that if you are here while there is a typhoon in the South China sea then it's damn cloudy, with dumping waves, and snorkelling is pointless because the "vis" (note for my brother to acknowledge my expert dive terminology) is terrible. So all of that basically turns Nha Trang in to a bit of a lying on beach or 'do random sightseeing' kind of town.
After refusing many a motorbike taxi driver (you know the phrase 'No thanks' very well after a while, it's almost a mantra as you walk down the street) I did start chatting to one guy called Son (means mountain, I know you were wondering :)) who told me that one guy from Dalat had died at the beach that morning due to the bad waves.
So with the beach off the option list I did a bit of a random tour around Nha trang, nothing jumped out at me too much, but Son was a good guide so I ended up negotiating with him to head on a longer trip in to the Central Highlands for a few days, finally escape the tourist trail a bit.
With that all sorted it was good to sit down with Son and some locals afterwards for some beer hoi. Beer Hoi is a fantastic thing, a lot of the locals drink it from little plastic chairs along the street. It is served out of these big scuba tank looking things, has no preservatives at all (i.e. can't be stored) and best of all it's 6000 dong a litre, that's about 30 cents!!!
As Son dropped me back he asked for a deposit for the trip and this is one of those moments where you could easily be being scammed. What can I say, sometimes you just have to trust people so I gave him some of the cash and hoped he'd show up again in a couple of days (he did :) )
