Our arrival in Hong Kong was a bit more stressful than we had hoped as the guesthouse (The Garden Hostel - Chungking Mansions - Block C) we booked made us wait 4 hours before we could check in, then we had to hang around whilst the hotel managers shouted at and verbally abused 3 German tourists before trying to tell us that a single bed constitutes a double room if they make 2 people share it!
After much heated discussions we went on a search for somewhere decent to stay and ended up in Block B at the Hollywood Guesthouse. The rooms are reasonably priced, clean and the staff are friendly and helpful.
That evening we headed to Temple Street Market and had a meal at one of the street side restaurants before going to the harbour to watch the strange but entertaining symphony of lights show and walk along the Avenue of Stars.
Our first full day was spent taking the Star Ferry to Hong Kong Island and then a bus to the Peak, we had hoped to take the bus to the tram stop but got the wrong bus! The views of the harbour and skyscrapers were amazing.
The next couple of days were spent exploring Soho, Graham Street Market, travelling on the Central Escalator and taking a ride on the double decker trams. We also took a trip to Lantau Island and went on the cable car to Ngong Ping to see Tia Tan Buddha. We took a bus to the small traditional village of Tai O before getting the ferry back to Hong Kong Island.
