Fishing Boat
Getting to the Gili Islands was a mini adventure in itself.  We were due to get the 1 hour fast ferry at 11:00am on its maiden voyage from Padangbai to Lembar (Lombok) before catching a bus then another ferry to Gili Trawangan.

Unfortunately it didn't quite go to plan.  Firstly the boat arrived 3 hours late and after numerous interviews and photo opportunities the crew left harbour at 1:00pm, or at least that was the plan until they realised the tide had gone out and we were now stuck on a sand bank!  After a long and slow process we eventually left Padangbai bay for Lembar.  The 1 hour ferry then took 3 hours to reack Lombok by which time we had missed the last boat to the Gili Islands and we hadn't even done the 2 hour bus journey across Lombok!

Anyway we made it on the bus to be greeted by a small traditional fishing boat in the dark with rough water.  It was not the most pleasant journey we had ever undertaken and if the worst had happened people would be saying what stupid travellers we were!

After our journey we hada great evening winding down with a nice meal and a few beers listening to a great band singing Bob Marley.

We had four very relaxing days on Trawangan although some of which was spent being sick with food poisoning.  However Linda enjoyed snorkelling from the beach and we enjoyed our 5th wedding anniversary while we were there.
