This is actually the second half of a trip we made with our friends, Helen and Earl. The two segments were so radically different that I decided to split it into 2 blogs. The first half (see "France at 5 MPH) was a relaxing trip on a French canal. The second was a wild dash around central Europe. So, let's get dashing...

Pilgrimage to Bastogne

We met at 9 and as we checked out, I leaned that Earl & Helen had picked up the tab for dinner as an anniversary present! What a nice (and generous!) surprise!!

On the road again, we headed for Belgium and specifically for Bastogne. Road construction caused a lot of aggravation & delay but we arrived in Bastogne at about noon & parked at Place McAuliffe, at tribute to the General who uttered the one-word response "nuts!" when asked to surrender the city.. After picking up a map at the information & having lunch, we visited the museum & memorial at the site of the famous battle.
