First Day in England: Portsmouth and Isle of Wight
We arrived at the Heathrow Airport at 7:00 in the morning of March 24th. After a long flight, we had to endure yet another hour of land transfer to our destination:Portsmouth. Tired and sleepless from the journey, we left our luggages at the concierge since we couldn't check in yet at the hotel. It was only a little past 8:00am.
It's our fist time in England. And since we couldn't check in til 2:00pm, we started familiarizing ourselves with the place: way to railway station, bus stops, etc.
From Marriot Hotel in Porstmouth, we walked towards Allaway Rd. and took a bus to Cosham where the train station is. We took the train to Portmouth Harbour station, and spent an hour or two exploring the Historic Dockyard, a view of the Spinacle Tower and nearby areas.
From Portsmouth Harbour, we took the ferry going to Isle of Wight. Once there, we took the old tram not really knowing where to go, the ticket guy asked where we are dropping off.We simply shrugged our shoulders and said "where's a nice place to go?". That's how we got to Shanklin.
Shanklin is a nice town, and although we have the option to take the Tourist Buses, we chose to explore the area on foot. Following the road signs to the beach, which indeed is quite a walk, we finally saw the beautiful white sand beach. We stayed in one of the benches and enjoyed the fine weather, which doesn't happen very often in England as they say. We didn't notice how long we stayed there. It's been a long day and the place helped us relax. It was already 8:00pm when we got back to the hotel. At last, sleep!
