My friend and co-organizer for SAAC put together a Happy Hour gathering for members at the Ascolese Italian Restaurant on South Church Avenue. Ascolese's Italian Ristorante is a beautiful Italian hot spot in the downtown Tucson area. Mark reserved space for 50 on the patio and the management of Ascolese promised tastey appetizers from 5:30-8:30 on the back patio or inside at the bar. I arrived a little after 7:15 p.m. with a friend who had taken me to dinner (call it a date if you would), he did not stay as he had to pick up his daughter. Normally I would he dancing at a happy hour, but unlike the many happy hours I have attened, this one felt as if I had walked into a conference room where people were have side bar conversations. It was humid outside and the clouds were heavy with rain.
One of my SAAC friends Ben who was unable to attend my birthday party was so guilty when he saw me that he offered to buy me a glass of red wine - normally he would not offer. At the bar I asked for a glass of Italian Chianti and we settled in outside. A few new faces I saw, I tinroduced myself and they all seemed happy to see me and wish me Happy birthday, of course, Boyd had posted my birthday as the 500th event held by SAAc in Tucson and I happy to be one of two black ladies on SAAC that I know of. I'm well known for my bubbly nature and smile that many who meet me immediately go, I saw you on . . . , or I heard you . . . , or are you . . .
Well all in all, I could not compare this meet with the others I have attended, it left a lot to be desired.
