Day 19: From Kumamoto to Fukuoka
While the rest of the group went out to explore the city with the tourguide and visit some areas nearby, I met up with a tourguide who happened to be staying there and was an old classmate of mine. He was a colleague of our tourguide (working for the same company).
He loves Japan like me and despite his economical studies, he fell in love with Japan upon his first visit and had been there well over 50 times as a tourguide. He can speak the language, but not so fluently, but he knows the cities very well to tell me more about them and what to look out for and see the next time I come to Japan.
So, we started walking around the city through the small streets and just heading out to wherever our feet woould lead us. We visited several temples, walked through residential areas and passing places where probably no or hardly any tourist will come unless he/she is lost or just want to explore a city like we did.
It's enjoyable to see every day life in a city for a change, to see how people live, do their work, children at school instead of going to the tourists attractions.Along the way, we discovered a kitten wandering alone on someone's doorstep and I love cats very much (that's why you see a lot of cat pics in this blog). A shy little one at first, but of course he/she fell for my charmes :P
After walking around for a few hours, we did see the Kumamoto Castle, but we only walked around it. We ended up near the train station, where we discovered an oxygen bar. This was something I had never seen before, but it's a place where you can go inside and order a portion of oxygen.
Then we headed back to our hotel, as we both had to leave. He had to go home and I was going with the group to our final destination in Japan: Fukuoka.
