Day 10: Shirakawago
May 27, 2007
We made 2 stops along the way, with the last stop at Shirakawa-go, which is a world heritage site, a quiet village in between mountains, with rice fields and a river running through it. We had well over 2 hours time to wonder around the outdoor museum, called Gassho-zukuri Minka-en, containing 27 preserved houses built in the gassho-zukuri style from various areas in Shirakawa-go.
While walking around the village and up to a mountain, we saw the houses, people working on the fields, someone walking their dog which was wearing a diaper, someone walking their rabbit and apparently a movie where guys were dressed as school girls.
