La fresque des Lyonnais,a massive trompe l'oeil of more than 800 square meters

                                         If Lyon has an international reputation for the year round lighting of buildings,another local famous speciality is painted walls.There are more than 150 giant murals on walls all over Lyon depicting historical events or famous people or simply creating a trompe l'oeil effect.The best famous is La fresque des lyonnais:      

  This optical illusion,a massive trompe l'oeil mural,an entire building (more than 600 square meters) painted with a fresco is located close to the banks of the river Saône,opposite the restaurant Le Potager des Halles (see review) at the corner of the 2 rue de la Martinière and the 49 quai Saint Vincent,600 metres from the Terreaux square.

                                      It was painted by artists of THE CITE DE LA CREATION,a group that has since been commissioned to paint others wall murals in other French cities and abroad(Mexico,Canada,Israel....);

                                      This fresco depicts dead and living 31 famous people from in and around Lyon:the yellow-haired Little Prince and Antoine de Saint Exupéry, the Lumière brothers,Paul Bocuse....some are illuminated at night.
