Guignol, the main character of a puppet theater was created in 1808 in Lyon by an unemployed canut,a silk worker named Laurent Mourguet. As he had converted being a toothpuller and practised his profession in public squares,he made use of puppets to attract patients and to reduce their pains.By the 1820s,he had given up the "dentistry" for the stage because of his great success through France.
