Le Grenier d'Abondance, the Granary of Abondance built around 1720.An Abondance Chamber was created in 1643 by the Town Council to store grain of the good harvests and sell it at an affordable price in times of shortage, thus preventing famines.

From the Croix-Rousse square (Metro station Croix-Rousse),we headed towards the Sâone river on the west side of the Boulevard de la Croix Rousse built under Napoléon III's reign instead of a path running alongside the former ramparts of Lyon.Till mid-XIX,this path was the border between Lyon and the Croix-Rousse commune, nowadays it is the edge between the Plateau and the Slopes.

There are not many sights there except Le Clos Jouve ,one of the largest bowl court in Lyon (we didn't stop to kiss its Fanny) but heading down after a left-turn to the foot of the slopes by the Montée de la Butte, one can see the Fort Saint- Jean( XVI to XIX),one of the remains of Lyon fortifications and on the left bank of the Sâone river,LE GRENIER d'ABONDANCE(the Grenary of Abondance).

The Abondance Chamber was created in 1643 by the Town Council to store grain after good harvests and sell it at affordable price in times of shortage, thus preventing famine. The "Grenary" was designed to store 16,000 tons of grain and was built from 1722 to 1728.After housing a gendarmerie barracks,it was renovated and is home now to the danse classes of the Higher National Conservatory of Music and to the Drac(Regional Cultural Affairs Division).

And a bit further on the Quai St Vincent LES SUBSISTANCES (military supplies) housing in the 22,000 sqm of a former XVII convent and army barracks an International creative research laboratory dedicated to theatre, dance and contemporary circus, and the School of fine arts of Lyon not forgetting a restaurant.

Going up the slope by the Montée de la Butte or the close rue de la Muette, one reach the Cours Général Giraud( formerly Cours des Chartreux),the continuation of the Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse where stands now the Lycée Diderot (in the past the reliable Weaving School designed and supervised by Tony Garnier, and attended for 3 years by my dead brother) and

above all LE JARDIN DES CHARTREUX 36 Cours du Général Giraud,a lovely and quiet garden UNRECOGNIZED by many Lyon people though allowing impressive views on the Sâone river and Lyon city (see my upcoming review!).

The 365-window House or Maison Brunet,a typical example of Canut silk workers residence but with cosmological connotations:52 apartments as there are weeks in the year and 4 entrances as there are seasons
It's worth it going there!

The lower part of the garden faces the 365- WINDOW HOUSE

or Maison Brunet on the Place ROUVILLE.This building is a typical example of canut silk workers residence.Famous in Lyon for its 365 windows(in fact there are 378 of them).

It is known for its cosmological connotations and features 52 apartments as there are weeks in the year and 4 entrances as there are seasons.
