We stayed here for two wonderful days, exploring the city on foot and by boat via the canals. Our hotel was located near the Burg and City Hall, the gorgeous hub of the city. This was a marketplace with restaurants, cafes, farmers market every morning, carriage rides, the 14th century city hall, and the gothic belfry. The only tourist related activty we had was climbing the 366 steps to the top of this more than 800 year old tower. What incredible views. the medieval skyline made us feel as though we had stepped back in time.
Aside from the amazing architecture that greeted us around every corner, we delighted in Belgian Beer and chocolates - the only gastronomical must-dos in Belgium. popular foods here are mussels, and fries with mayonnaise. yes, "french fries" originated in belgiun. we were not impressed with food overall, or the prices. the average entree was about $20. we mcdonald's on our second day. hahah!
our second day the weather became gloomier and the clouds obscured the warm colors of bruges' architecture. we decided to head to our next destination, amsterdam.
