Short break in the Harz mountains (Germany)
After long talking we finally made it to plan a short break with two of my sisters in lawn and a friend of one of them. It was already two years ago since we went out together (that time we had 5 lovely days on Terschelling, a Dutch Island). We booked a 5 days arrangement in "Schlosshotel Ballenstedt", including breakfast, diner, a massage, a walk etc.
On Sunday September 21 we drove to Ballenstedt, it took about 6 hours to get there. Lovely hotel, Schlosshotel Ballenstedt, not a real castle, but very nice rooms, quite surroundings. You need a car to get around.
We spent one day in Quedlinburg, only half an hour driving from the hotel. The historic city centre of Quedlinburg is on the Unesco World Heritage list. Gorgeous buildings. And we had the best homemade cake ever in Hotel Theophano!
We spent another day in Wernigerode. Although we hit a very rainy day we had a great time in Wernigerode Castle, original a Romanesque castle, high above the medieval town.
Last day we went to Falkenstein Castle in Meisdorf. We walked through the woods, saw a falconshow and visited the castle.
And we needed another day to get home again.
