Look for this sign on US Route 1
Perry's nut house is one of many roadside oddities. I need to put this in what I have dubbed "The Maine Project". I set out on this beautiful sunny day to go and snap some pictures of a nearby city. The city of Belfast. Belfast is a nice little fishing town, with shopping, boat rides, resturaunts, and more. Once you get to the outskirts of Belfast headed North on US Route 1, you will find Perry's. At first look, you might say to yourself, its just a typical tourist trap, but that where you would be wrong my freinds, Perry's is not typical. One of the first things you will notice is a bright pink dinasaur, then you eyes will move to "Nutzy" the squirell. Today I had my picture taken in the lobster crackers and I was hugged by a Maine black bear.
The lobstah crackahs
Now for the fun stuff, the inside. Perry's has a usual assortment of touristy things, magnets, stuffed animals, and who would want a bobble head lobster? Then turning around I saw the biggest bird I had ever seen. They have a stuffed Albatross in a display case. This looked like a seagull on steroids, it was huge. Moving through the store, and all it's randomness I get to the back, only to find a mummy. Yes a real gauze wrapped, skin still on the corpse mummy! How did a mummy get to Maine you ask? Someone brought it home with them, then later he died, and left his estate to his family. While they were going through his belongings they happened to come across this mummy, so it is now on display at Perry's Nut House. Why do they call it Perry's Nut House? Well it is not because of all the unusual things you will find around the inside of the store, it is because they also sell nuts, candy, and fudge, which by the way is very tasty! So whats next, how do you top a forgotten mummy, well Im not really sure but I will post more blogs and journals as I continue on with the Maine Project.
