We didn't have a car booked till 1pm, the hostel had a great luggage storage room which was secure so leaving our luggage we went for our last walk round Union Square and of course did a bit of shopping! Picked up the car and got a nice free upgrade to a Dodge which was huge and off we set to the outdoors.
The drive is a nice one on the 120, we stopped at a little roadside stall which sold everything from strawberries to Horseradish, for lunch. We decide to buy some strawberries and am glad we did as we got free cake - lemon meringue and it was really good.
The first views of the park are amazing, they creep up on you unexpected. El Capitan to the right and Half Dome off in the distance, it really takes your breath away. You drive down into the valley passing impressive waterfalls and then pass the truly amazing El Capitan.
We stopped at Curry Village which was great, even though it was busy with school kids. There is everything you need there and after we unpacked and explored we tucked into a pizza and chatted to other campers (a very friendly German couple and a Auzzie bloke whose wife couldn't move as she had climbed Half Dome during the day).
