Just under a month of travelling round California with a nip across to Nevada.

Leaving LA - Route 1, West Coast Highway

Ventura Beach

The plan was to take our time driving up the western coast of California to take in as much as we can and this was defiantly a good idea. We left LA and headed to Ventura and the Channel Island NP. We hadn't allowed enough time to take a boat trip to the islands but there is a nice beach and a viewing tower to look over the ocean and spot Whale's.

We reached Santa Barbara at lunch time and stopped by the beach. Unfortunately we could venture into the surrounding hills due to the fires so it was back on the road, which headed inland through fields and fields of Strawberries. On the roadside there are loads of little stalls selling freshly picked Strawberries the size of your head.

Back on the coast we stopped at Pisimo Beach for a break and play on the beach, it was so quiet and a really beautiful beach.

We arrived in Cambria late afternoon and our Youth Hostel was amazing. After settling in we played a bit of Badminton in the garden with the kids at the hostel followed by a walk round the town. This was such a difference to LA, the town is quaint with all the buildings are in keeping with the area. We found somewhere to eat, which if you’re on a budget is quite hard to do as there are some impressive restaurants to choose from, we opted for Lombardo’s a little Italian just off the main street.

It was a really nice little town, very different from LA, shame my stay was only 1 night.

Great place to stay
I would defiantly stop here again, it's a great hostel but doesn't feel like one. More like staying in your own house.

The staff were great and really friendly. The room was perfect, with a very comfy bed.

Breakfast was included in the cost and there was plenty to choose from.

It's walking distance (2 minutes) from the shops and restaurants and has a badminton/volleyball net in the garden for the more lively of visitors.

If you go to Cambria definatly stop here!
Affordable Italian
Italian restaurant which is probably the only cheapish place to eat in Cambria.

Good pasta dishes, all cooked to order. Great garlic bread and friendly service.
