It was a long time since I've been on the island, and finally husband was ready to make the trip. We invited a friend to join us, I bought ferry-tickets in advance, and made up a schedule on what to do on the island.
Ecomare should be on that list, definitely, because husband wanted to see the porpoises they had there.
The beach at the lighthouse was also an option as well as the harbour of Oudeschild. And ofcourse I packed a scrumptious picknick lunch. I was curious about the slufter, but because it was only me who wanted to go there I decided to keep that trip in storage.
We had to leave early to be in time for the 9.30 ferry so we could be at Ecomare about 10.00.
The sea mammal sancturary annex museum is located at a beautiful spot in the dunes not far from De Koog.
Later we find our picknick location at the Waalenburgerdijkje, somewhere in the middle of the island. Here we noticed the parachuting activities of the Texel paracentre.
After our lunch we moved on to the far northest part where the lighthouse is located. Here we spend some time at the beach. Lots of noise from the nearby Vlieland military base - Vlieland is the island east from where we were.
Oudeschild is a picturesque village where the island fisherman's harbour is. Here we sat down for a coffee and a snack before heading home again.
It was a well spent day!
