After spending all of Aug 7th sleeping off the effect of the full moon party and looking over the photos from that night, we booked a day trip around Koh Phangan, including snorkelling, elephant trekking, a monkey show, and hanging out on some secluded beaches!
The snorkelling was really cool, especially for me since i am a horrible swimmer and afrair of the water. Once you are underwater, you are exposed to a whole new underwater world, with fishes and reefs and corals... I will be snorkelling more in the future for sure!
We then made our way to the Elephant park, where we were first treated to a monkey show, the trainers had one of the monkeys knock coconuts from the huge palm trees, and jump from palm tree to palm tree to do it again.
We then fed the elephant with bananas, because a well fed elephant is a happier elephant and is much easier to ride. When it came down to riding the elephant though we were not that lucky, me, Bennie and Ashley got the dumbest elephant alive, not the one that we fed. The trainer told us, 'if the elephant is mad or annoyed he will spray a liquidy goo back at you'... Well a few minutes later, when we were starting our accend up the steep hill, the elephant sprays everyone with this goo, and I am thinking, 'This elephant clearly doesn't want to go up, I think we should listen to him!!!' Its not like we are securely held on top of this beast, we are holding on for dear life as the elephant decides not to follow the path but to hit every tree in his way, probably in an attempt to knock all of us OFF HIM! The ride on the elephant was a mix of being of the most FUN things I have ever done with being one of the STUPIDEST things I have ever done!
After the elephant riding, we went to a few secluded beaches that one can only reach by boat.
The day trip was amazing, it was totally worth it, and you get to see what the island of Koh Phangan has to offer besides the Full Moon Party.
At night us guys decide to go to a Muay Thai Boxing Event, on the island... For 700 Baht, we get great seats for 8 matches :) Now you know that you are not in the western world, there is no head gear, no protection, full contact!
1st Fight was 11 yr old boys, they kids can kick!
2nd Fight was between 15 yr old girls, they don't look like it but they can kick all of our asses... That reminds me to always pay my drycleaner lol
A few of the fighs were okay, one between 2 women in the 40's, ironically this ended up being the bloodiest of them all haha
The last fight was the Championship Match, and you can clearly see the difference in skill, speed, and power! They were so fast that I turned around to my friend Bennie and BAM! The Red Guy knocks out the blue guy with an elbow to the face... He is out cold!!!
