Hmm I ate Pad Thai everyday in Bangkok

Me and Ruby get to Bangkok, we first really get amazed by the traffic in the city... New York traffic is nothing compared to this! Cars fill the roads but the motorbikes are buzzing in & out of lanes... I have no idea how there isn't accidents ALL THE TIME!

We get to our hotel, called 'Rikka Inn', which is located on Khao San Road, which is the center of most of the backpackers that pass through Bangkok because of its cheap accomodation, cheap food, and cheap alcohol combo! After meeting up with Bennie & Ket, we go out for some drinks.  Now walking down the street on Khao San Road you are bombarded with people trying to sell you stuff, trying to get you to come into their club, or trying to get you to get into their tuk tuk!

Even though I know exactly why backpackers end up on Khao San Road, it is really as far away from experiencing Thailand or Thai culture as you can get! It is a small street in a large city, that is conveniently set up to give the backpackers that pass through Bagkok what unfortunately most of them really want to get out of Thailand.

Pad Thai Ladies, I miss u!

Before getting to Bangkok you often hear travelers talk about Khao San Road like its 'Pure Nirvana' well i can tell you that it might be to those whos idea of a great trip to Asia is a never ending hangover, but to real travelers is hits you as annoying and very sad.   I can't help but to think that most of these people will go home and tell stories of 'experiencing Asia!' and being in Bangkok but let me assure you that Khao San Road is NOT ASIA and certainly NOT BANGKOK!!!  It is a cesspool of backpackers to me reminding of a US military Base where there is a never-ending barrage of young caucasians, with their huge bags, some who are coming, others who are leaving... Some are here to indulge on the women, who are cheap, others are here to consume immense amounts of alcohol, which are cheap as well, but most are certainly not here to explore beyond the confines of Khao San Road.

I get a flashback from 'The Beach' where Leonardo DiCaprio says that all he sees is British and Aussie backpackers who want nothing else but to get drunk and puke their guts out coming out of the bar lol.

Ok the only good thing about Khao San Road is the Pad Thai Ladies :) For 25 Baht (40 us cents) you get a meal consisting of noodles of your choice with egg hmmm!!! I will give you that...

Did you like Rikka inn? Do you think it is a good idea to stay in Khao San Road or is there another area I should rather stay in?
