Welcome back to europe Jen and John! What a way to kick off the trip, we had booked a great place months earlier, it was an awesome corner unit just off the Plaza Major with 2 balconies and overlooking a smaller plaza where we tended to have breakfast, drinks, etc. It was pretty hot so it was great walking around then retreating to our nice sunny room to take a nap with the cool breeze through the room. Jen and I were zonked from preparing for the trip and oh yeah, finishing a law degree. The spanish was a laugh, at least for us. No one else seemed to be laughing just confused and bewildered as we'd try to get through our days. We buried our bewilderment in food, enjoying an assortment of meat and meat-derived creations including a multitude of sandwiches and fried stuff. I'm a particular fan of the churros and chocolate for breakfast, and the simple meat and cheese in a fresh crusty bun. After a few days of recovering from jet lag and our former lives, it was off to the small walled city of Segovia, about 1 hour out of town, for a taste of the small-town life.

There's photos of Madrid posted on my flickr site:
