In July, we took a few days' holiday in Gardone on the western shore of Lake Garda. We travelled there by Eurostar to Paris, and by overnight express to Milan and Desenzano and finally by ferry to Gardone.

Onward, ever onward

On arrival at Milano Centrale we head for the bar.  OK, it's 05:40, but the thought of a good espresso beckons.  Sadly the bar doesn't open until 06:00 (ish), so there is just time to knock back a jolt of the hard stuff before taking the local train to Desenzano.

Milan station was clearly constructed in the time of Mussolini - it has that wonderful architecture found nowhere else in the world, but for the third time since leaving home we found that our carriage was at the far end of the train, so by the time we arrived in Desenzano (07:30) we must have covered at least five miles on foot.
