The stunning excitement of Bercy station
Now too late to enjoy a meal in Paris, we headed for RER line D to Gare du Lyon and Metro line 14 for Bercy.  Paris Bercy station represents divine punishment for anyone wishing to leave paris for Milan at night.  During the daytime, one can travel in style from the Gare du Lyon, but Bercy has nothing whatever to commend it - a small shop, a booking office and a waiting room incapable of seating even a fraction of those travelling.  It even hosts a Mororail hub !

Fortunately one's stay there is mercifully brief and none too soon the beautiful French countryside is viewed from the swiftly-moving train.  Once again, St. Michael soothed the palate with salad washed down by a robust Merlot.  The sleeping compartment itself is bijou and compact, and any activity whatever must be carried out in strict sequence, or chaos ensues.  The Chef du Train promises to wake us at 05:20 in time for arrival in Milano Centrale, but we set the alarm anyway just in case.  Sleep comes with difficulty as we are unused to this new form of nocturnal torture and just as we fall into the arms of Orpheus, the Nokia 6300 tells us it's time to get up.

Oh I have a Nokia 6300 that tells me when to get up. Very annoying.
