My new home in Rades Tunisia

Rades Tunisia (specifically city Olympic) is my new home from May 09 - Nov 09. Well ok Im married now, so I guess although I wont be living here full time, it will now be considered my home away from home. Rades is located approximately 9 km south east of Tunis. Rades is manily known because the Tunisia national football team plays its matches in a 65000 seat stadium here in city Olympic. Rades is basically divided into 7 sub cities; Radès Medina, Radès Méliane, Rades Forêt, Chouchet Radès, El Malleha, Noubou and The Olympic city.

09/28/2009...Today I went up the mountain. Usually Im driving past looking or taking pics of the mountain. But today we drove up the mountain. As you wind ur way up to the top (which is only about a 8 min drive) You approach a sign that says Parc National du Jebel Bou Kornine.

You are now 576 meters above sea level. Without much direction indicating whats what, we first ventured into a building and turn out its a restuarant. Surprisingly there were a few people in there. The building was old looking and not much decoration inside. It was a bit to hot and humid inside to stay for drinks. Unfortunately, this could be a beautiful place. Windows surrounded about 75% of the restuarant. If the outside grounds from the windows would be trimmed you would have an amazing view of the Tunis coastline from Sidi Bousaid to Korbus. I dont think whoever is running it puts that much effort into the place. Very sad.      After leaving the restuarant there is a little gate. Upon the little gate there is a steep path with a lot of stairs. Of course wanting to get a view from above the trees to see the view we started climbing and climbing. A quarter of the way up there is a little clearing and the view opens some. It is truely a breathtaking view. Although somewhat small looking around the trees. You must continue up the steps. Although the air is thin and the steps are exhausting, what you find at the top is a great photo op. At the top of the step you find another small building. I believe they said it was a museum but it was closed. Also that they have some animals that are local to the area but we saw neither. But just a short distance from the building is the opening with the view I was searching for. ahhhh finally. Im at the top of the mountain, I climb down the 3 stairs, around the tree, up the 3 rocks and there it is. I finally see my view. Its a beautiful sunny afternoon. Across the med sea I can see Sidi Bousaid, then Carthaige, then Tunis and Rades (and the stadium) then u have Ezzaharra and were standing above Hammam Lif and continuing down the coastline to the right is Hammam Chat and Soloman and finally across the waters again you have Korbus. Wow! So now that I have taken it all in, ready for some pics to capture it all. Hmmmm yes my battery once again is failing me. Well I do have my camera phone. So although they arent as clear as my camera would have been, I did capture some. So overall, total time spent here was about an hour, it cost nothing and is basically worth it for the coastline view. :)
