Napoli, hot but cool!

Today we went to Napoli; it was a hot day, but we had some 'cool' places to go to: first the Museo Nazionale Archeologico or National Archeological Museum, and in the afternoon Napoli Sotteranea, or Napels Underground.
After a 1 hour journey with the Circumvesuviana we arrived at Napoli Central Station. From there we walked to the Archeological Museum....since it already promised to be a hot day, we were happy to enter the cool museum. In the museum are lots of statues, found in Pompeii and Herculaneum; the museum has maybe the larger collection in his kind in the world!
But maybe the most fun for the students was the visit to the Cabinette Secreto, or secret cabinet; in it is the 'secret collection', the collection we originally weren't allowed to see! Why? When the family de Bourbon started excavating Pompeii and Herculaneum, they discovered many beautiful treasures like fresco's and statues.
at the excavations they also found very explicit statues and fresco's and the decided those were bad for the public moral, so they were locked away and were not to be seen...but now they can be seen; kids however must be accompanied by an adult...
after the museum we walked to the Cathedral and then had a nice lunch. After lunch it was time for Napoli Sotteranea, a walk beneath Napels, following the antique aquaducs...first we walked to see the remains of an antique Greek theater, nicely incorporated into modern buildings and discovered by accident. Then we descended a stair, bringing us 30m below Napels, seeing the antiques aquaducs, and hide aways from WWII. It's not for claustrofobics: some areas are narrow and barely lith...
