I noticed that many of you fellow TravBuddies were visiting the Oktoberfest in Munich while travelling in Germany. Seems that this one is a very well known event in other countries. But you know what - there are some better beer fests here in Germany. I mean, Oktoberfest is crowded, expensive and as long as you don't have a seat in one of the beer tents you won't even get a Mass Bier! So many locals don't go there any more... here's one nice alternative: Bergkirchweih in Erlangen!

Big ferris wheel

I really like this time of the year - finally, the weather is fine, it's warm and sunny, the landscape is looking so beautiful, everything so green...
The only thing that kinda sucks - there are far too many good events right now! So many parties, wine and beerfests... *sigh* It's hard to decide where to go.
This weekend I decided to go to Bergkirchweih in Erlangen, which is a nice town near Nuremberg. Forget about Munich's Oktoberfest - Bergkirchweih is the place to be!
It a giant beer fest, which takes places once a year around Whitsunday - since 1755! Well, it's not exactly as big as Oktoberfest, but it's on third place of all folk festivals in Bavaria.

Good beer, live music and tens of thousands of people enjoying themselves and having a big party!
