Really enjoyed this Maori Painting, Full of Feminism
Went to wellington yesterday, saw the quarry where alot of LOTR castle scenes like Helms Deep were filmed. Guess what? It looks like a quarry. I spent the morning in the Te Paupa Museum (which is free for everyone, and really quite impressive) but was only as interesting as a museum can be. They did have a really neat film on called "My Place" Where it was all these New Zealanders talking about their favourite part of NZ. The first lady was an old crazy woman who went around the rocky coastline taking pictures. She was talking about how long she had been alone, since she married her true love who was a great deal older then her. Something she said "We knew we were never going to grow old together" was sort of touching to me. Knowing that its not going to be easy, but giving it a go anyways.
Dont know what he was on... but something cool if it glowed in the dark
They never had kids, and here she is, quite isolated but also quite content. Im going to be that crazy old lady one day. But with cats. :)
I also walked all over the bloody city looking for a pair of shoes to buy. They START at ladies size 7. What is UP with that? Im a size five. I went to two different "mountian/camping" types shops where I was pretty much ignored, and check for small shoes, none. Went to a store where they actually acknowledged my existence, and then looked at me like I was a freak when I told them my shoe size. "We dont get them in that small here" was the answer. (And no... its not due to european sizes etc... I checked... they just dont have any smaller and all the boxes had american sizing on them). Frustrated, with my ugly shoes falling apart, I found a Salvation army.
Another really nice painting by a Kiwi. I know your not supposed to take pictures... but
They had one pair of hiking shoes, and wouldnt you know. They were just my size. $5 for a pair of shoes is not that bad, Ill probably buy inserts for them to get that fabulous cushy new shoe feeling. I then found a theatre playing Pan's Labrinyth, which was a kick ass movie (although it had creepy parts which gave me nightmares) that made me want to learn spanish. Everything sounds better in spanish. Even angry words.
I have spent a lovely week here at the Lavender farm, there has been a surplus of food around for me to eat, which is nice, and lots of lavender to prune.... which is tedious. But Im glad to be moving on to Levin
next to do some bird watching at the Manawatu Estuary and Lake Horowhena. Im also going to get some goodies at RJ's licorice factory, and am considering a stop at a celtic winery that does organic fruit wines. There is one called "Merlins Blend" that I want especially :).
