A step back in time
Buquebus ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacremento, Uruguay. Nice way to travel, about A$95 (£18).
Colonia is a beautiful little town on the coast, just a shame I was here in winter as today it was about 10 degrees. Not too bad when the sun was out, but the wind was quite biting when it went in. Nice cobbled streets in the old town and plenty of history from the times when the Spanish used this as a major port until 1777 when they switched to Buenos Aires. There's a nice lighthouse which gives good views over the town and area. Not much more I can say as I'm staying here one night as it's soo cold!! The hostel doesn't have any heating so spent the evening in the common room chatting to Jamie and Monique (Canadian/Australian couple) in front of the log fire while the owners watched the TV (bloody loudly I must say!!). Off to Montevideo tomorrow.
The bathroom adjacent to my dorm was pretty poor - the shower was weak and didn't have much hot water and the bathroom didn't look that clean.
Overall, it's on ok place to stay - it is cheap (I paid only U$204/night which is about £5, with a HI discount included). Breakfast (which included nice fresh bread) was included.
