Little Corn Island, Nicaragua: A trail through town.
Today will be our last full day on the island so we set out to make the most of it. We decided to go to a diferent place for breakfast today. The house next door to Casa Iguana had a similar menu as Casa Iguana so that was not what we were looking for so we went to the main part of the village and found the Lobster Inn which has a caribbean flair. We got a nice basic beakfast there in a pleasant dining room. The waitresses were black caribbeans who spoke English and pidgin.
Our goal for the day was to relax and enjoy the best of the island. We decided to go to the beaches on the north end of the island and do a little bit of snorkeling. We took the trail to the north end of the island and set up on the beach near the trail where there is a beach with a little cove of rock which would probably give us some good snorkeling terrain.

The north beaches are still protected by the reef to the east so the waves are not so bad here. Once I got into the water there was still some turbidity in the water which made the visibility not as good as it could have been but it still wasn't all so bad. There was some good rocky (coral) outcroppings to explore. The waves crash over the top of the rocks where it gets really shallow but if you explore on the outside of the rocks it is a little deeper and there are no waves. I found a nurse shark sitting on the bottom again. I dive down to take a better look at him a couple of times and eventually he spooks and takes off. I followed him for a little bit but not too close in case he doesn't like me following him.

Just as we get out of the water it starts to rain. Sprinkling at first and then it pours. It rains hard for about 10 minutes. We try to stay a little drier under the palm trees but they are not all that helpful. During the rain a local family comes out and frolics in the water enjoying the rain and water. Eventually the rain slows down to a nice tropical sprinkle so we set off down the beach toward home. The rain and the sky are beautiful and it is refreshing and invigorating to be walking in the rain. We take a look for the trail through Farm Peace Love but aparently they are not into either peace or love because there are No Trespassing signs at the entrance to their property. We head back through the Ensuenos trail.

(Aparently they believe in peace and love and allow people through their property) Their cabins are pretty quirky and primative but they are probably fixed up pretty nice inside. The jungle is steamy and hot so we take it easy on our walk. We get back to the ball field and there is a soccer game going on, and we also see a man heading toward town carrying a huge bunch of bananas over his shoulder.
We get back to our casita and enjoy the calmness of life at Casa Iguana for the rest of the afternoon. We have dinner at Casa Iguana which is a hearts of palm salad and chicken in peanut sauce. Pretty good. The guys from the dive shop eats at our table again as they usually do which adds a little bit of (semi) local flavor to the conversation. After dinner it is back to the casita for a relaxing evening.
