Vilnius for the company
We were invited to have a special meeting. Lithuania had the honour to organise this meeting. My colleague did his utmost and put us all in a great hotel and hired the town hall for our meeting.
I tried to have a direct flight into Vilnius, but every flight had a change-over: Air Scandinavia in Kopenhagen, Lufthansa in Frankfurt, even our KLM wanted us to change somewhere.
Their partner Lithuanian air offered a direct flight (their country is to small to change:) and we booked that flight thru KLM.
It was a prop-jet, a bus with wings, but it brought us steadily into Vilnius.
The taxi driver brought us to the Radison hotel. We took the highway and we saw old women sweeping the roads. A thought occurred to our (= not only my!! we were with 3) mind that to get rid of the elderly people, they let them sweep.
Vilnius is a beautiful city with old buildings that are restored as new. When I was there, they were rebuilding the main road along the town hall.
You can sit on one of the many terraces to drink a beer (or tea) and there are enough restaurants to go out to and have a meal for a reasonable price.
A note on nightclubs:
There are nightclubs that are owned by the Russian Mafia that operates in this country.
To get into the club is for free, but to get out you have to pay a price. Go in groups, preferably with a local, to a club you want to go to. Do not go with a limousine like on the picture.
We had a trip to the castle in the old capital Trakai. The road leading there was wide and seemed good, except for a few unmarked potholes, 2 meters wide, 1 m across and 50 cm deep!!!! Good for us, the driver knew of this obstacles and drove around. This was all during the day. These roads have no streetlights.
After a tour through the castle, we had a great evening with music, dance and a buffet. The buffet and personnel were from our own hotel. The food was very nice. (especially the cooked smoked salmon, and I do not even like fish!!)
To tell you about the meeting would be deadly boring you, but Vilnius is certainly a city worth visiting again.
Our return flight was terrific. We had a SAAB jet-propelled plane like on the flight in. We had a clean sky, good groundview. We saw the hav coastline of Poland, Holstein (DK and D) and the complete path through Holland to Schiphol. A fast (for a propjet) flight without turbulences or other problems.
My other colleagues had problems. Frankfurt was closed and almost all my colleagues had to wait hours to go to Frankfurt as their destination or change location.
When my colleagues were still traveling, I went to bed, happy to be home again. I am truly blessed!!
