4-days excursion to Danpaati
Danpaati is located in the interior of Suriname, at the banks of the Upper-Suriname river.
We had a long day, first by minibus, it took us about 7 hours to get to Atjoni. In Atjoni the road is coming to a stop. We were boarding a "korjaal" (a boat made out of a hollow treetrunk). We had to go a couple hours passing a great tropical river landscape. The holy trees ('kankantri"), the settlements where the ladies are taking care of the laundry in the river, the noises of the jungle, the changing colours of the sky......... it was just beautiful.
The "Marrons" (the local people) don't like it to be photographed.
We were staying in Danpaati River Lodge, on a island in the river. Close to Danpaati village, wich is on the mainland.
Very relaxed days, we did two trips by boat (to visit Danpaati village and for a jungle walk). We had plenty of time to sit at the verandah, overlooking the river, read and rest a little.
For the Dutch among us: "De groeten aan de koningin" van Karin Anema is een geweldig boek. Het is een reisverhaal, geen reisgids. Ik heb het in Danpaati gelezen en terug in Nederland nogmaals!
