Thank you Ranim!
More than four years ago, in a guesthouse in Aman, I heard for the first time exciting travel stories about Yemen. From that moment there was this plan in my head to visit the southern part of the Arabian peninsula. At the end of last year I found a friend willing to join me, and we booked a 15 days trip for the first half of May. In the months running up to our trip, Yemen became international news again for all the wrong reasons, so this would become a holiday with very limited interaction with other independent travellers.

Expectations were high, but were easily met. The word that comes to my mind to best describe Yemen is "magical". It's unlike any other place I've been to before and often I felt like I was wandering through some fairy tale land. This is because of the unique architecture, the impressive natural beauty and the friendly people. Everywhere you see people chewing qat and showing off their jambiyya dagger. My favourite places were the medina of the capital city Sana'a, the lost paradise island of Socotra and Wadi Do'an.

Sooner or later this will certainly become a popular travel destination!
