A few brave flowering plants bring in spring in Tucson

Tucson Travel Blog › entry 1 of 3 › view all entries

Tucson is DRY even as I write this: It is a very dry spring time with temperatures in the three digits. The normal blooming of flowers and cacti that normally happens in spring is limited, but as I spent time with my friend Joe yesterday we came across some great wild and tame flowers that I want to share with you. As I always say, the desert in Arizona is not without it's charms.

A few brave flowering plants bring in spring in Tucson

I love nature. I adore nature. Nature can be tame and wild at the same time; the changing of seasons tell of the character of the nature phenomena that is the vegetation covering of the earth. Living in Arizona has taught me to become visually alert. The only time I know it is spring is by looking at the fusion of blooming cacti and wild flowers. It is officially spring but with temperatures this high I call it summer. Last year was tough because I spent most of my time at work in an enclosure with air-conditioning set at 70 degrees. At the end of the day when I began my journey home to pick up my daughter, the sun was setting and the rush hour made it impossible to as much as see any flowers along my route home. My photography does not do much justice to the beautiful flowers that I see braving the sun's heat as I drive along or hike.

My daughter always brought me flowers from school. This year I thought I might pay more attention and concentrate on looking for the blooms. I started doing so on the hikes in the evening hours: the brave wild flowers that defy the sun are much too beautiful not to recognize. They grow on rocky ground and at such high altitudes sometimes it beats my understanding where the water comes from: well nature provides for it's own. The wild flowers in the mountains and in the desert bloom so beautifully it is hard not to stop and look at them or snap photographs, yet life is too busy and we all just go by like they do not exist. I do not know the names of these flowers, but do I need to know their names to enjoy their beauty?
