Manoa Valley

I moved to Hawaii to study to get my masters degree. I have been visiting lots of great places and want to share them with you. Welcome to Oahu...

Manoa Valley

Manoa Falls
There is a quaint little waterfall located in the Manoa Valley and we decided to pay it a visit. The drive was not very long and we ended in a small parking lot. I had been told rumors of theft in this area so we decided to park in the paved parking lot. We began our hike up to the falls. There were so many beautiful sites along the way that it took us longer than anticipated to get there, mostly because I am a photo freak. The hike otherwise was fairly short. It had rained that day so the ground was rather muddy and proved to be slippery in spots. Once we got to the falls, it was very peaceful and relaxing. It wasn't one of the powerful, rampaging type of falls. The water cascaded over the top and fell gently into a pool below. It is actually roped off because of rock slides that had occured before but we felt adventurous enough to cross over and climb on the rocks. We had some great photo opps when we did this. The falls was a great short day trip. Next time we go I think we will take a picnic lunch and enjoy it at the top.

There aren't many waterfalls in Waikiki but if you venture into the Manoa Valley you will be able to see Manoa Falls. This is a great little falls to visit. The hike up to the falls is easy and surrounded by lush, green foliage. It rains a lot so it is usually a little muddy but it stays nice and cool. If you want, it is great to pack a picnic lunch and then hike up and eat by the waterfall. There is a pool at the bottom that is deep enough to swim in if it has been raining. Otherwise you could sit in the pool and cool off after the hike. Not a lot of tourists find this place so it is never crowded. There is a parking lot at the bottom if you choose to drive but be careful about leaving valuables. It has been prone to theft in the past. Parking costs $5.00 but the hike if free if you choose to walk.
