Makapu'u Lighthouse
We decide we wanted to take a stab at the Makapu'u hike that is located outside of Hawaii Kai. The hike up was not a grewling as some had told us it would be. Once at the top you could see nothing but ocean for miles. If you knew where to look you could see Kailua and Koneohe. There is a lighthouse located at this point on the island and while we couldn't make it down to it, it made of some great photos. We were standing there, basking in the cool breeze from the sea when all of a sudden we saw a whale breech. It was magnificant. So big yet it seemed so small, like a child playing.
While up there we couldn't miss the opportunity to venture off the beaten path. On the way back down we decided to scale a cliff down to the bottom where there were pools in the rock formations.
Makapu'u Lighthouse
It was quite an adventure to say the least. When we finally got down there, the rocks were creating a huge wind tunnel that put out a very powerful breeze. We had met a man along the trail from my home state and he was blown backwards by the force of the wind. It was pretty funny. These pools were deep enough to swim in and offered some great snorkling. Apparently when the tide rises it covers these rocks and when it recedes, it leaves these lonely fish behind. After lounging on the rocks, we endured the difficult climb back to the top. It was a great day adventure.
