2 days in and already pooped!
March 27, 2009
Matt and I are the laziest people ever! Only 2 days in and we decided we needs to take it easy...I guess that's what a heavy night of drinking will do to ya eh? We were supposed to go on a walking tour of Munich today but we didn't really get up on time...I woke up for the free breakfast but Matt didn't. Then I figured we'd just go on the 1:00 tour instead so after breakfast I went down for a little nap. Didn't wake up in time so guess we'll do it tomorrow. It took us ages to decide what we were actually gonna do that day so eventually we just decided on nothing.
We went for lunch at Weisses Brauhaus which is a traditional German Restaurant and Beer hall. I got this pork dish that came with sauerkraut and potatoe cakes. Was pretty good except it had too much fat on the meat which made it too hard to eat. After we walked over to the English Gardens to go to the beer garden there for a few but sadly it was closed. What can we expect in March right? But we got to see some people surfing on that man made wave which was pretty sweet.
So since the English Gardens were closed we decided to hit up the Hofbrahaus instead. We were sat with a bunch of Americas (who had an infant...in a bar) and we had a beer and apple strudel. We left there about 7:30 and decided to go back to the hostel to hit up the last of the happy hour and get some cheap beers in.
At the hostel we met a fellow Vancouverite name Jared who was ok...he was a bit of a dick and took the piss out of me because of where in Vancouver I'm from but the funny thing is that he isn't from a better place lol. We also met Marien from Slovakia and Katie who is German but I swore was an Aussie. She actually works at the hostel bar but it was her night off so we sat and had some drinks with her. We also got a free jager bomb courtesy of Katie which was pretty sweet.
She recommend a bar for us to go to called Milche so after a while we made our way there. Matt and I are too nice of travelers as we picked up some random guys we met in the street to go with us. When we got to Milche though they wouldn't let us in as apparently we were too drunk but it was those guys who were with us that were too wasted and not us. They left and Matt got talking to a nice German couple asking us where else we could go.
But they were soo nice and offered to try and get us into the club with them! I totally thought that it was just gonna be a waste of time and that the bouncer had made up his mind but after a few minutes of them talking in German they let us in! It was really nice of that couple to go out on the limb like that cause they could have been refused entry too.
The club was pretty cool but really small! We kept looking for a 2nd floor but there wasn't one! I got talking to a guy named Max who was pretty nice and danced with him. Matt was totally off his face so eventually we decided it would be better just to leave and go back to the hostel. I guess me last night and Matt tonight haha.
CAN YOU BEER COUNT?!?!?! (Sorry inside joke--Matt will get it!)

The best hostel in Munich!
I give a 100% review to this hostel! This is probably the best hostel I have ever stayed in. I don't even know where to start on my review!
First of all the price, it is so cheap! I was there in March 2008 (low season) and it was only 10 euro a night for a 12 bed dorm. Probably around 15 euro a night during high season but for Europe, that is still dirt cheap! This 10 euro also included a FREE all you can eat breakfast buffet.
The rooms were great, you could tell they were just renovating but they were very clean and the beds very comfy. Underneath each bed is a locker to keep your stuff and each bed also has a small shelf to keep things that you need frequently without having to go into your bag and your own little reading light not to disturb others while they are sleeping.
Also in the hostel, and this is very important to me, was a bar! Happy hour from 6pm-9pm and 1/2L beers are only 2 euro and cocktails for 3,50 euro.
There is also internet which is 1 euro for half hour, tv's in the common room that show the news and sports games etc, and free tea whenever you want. If you check-in or check-out early there is free luggage storage and they also have laundry facilities.
The bathrooms were extremely clean and the showers amazing with excellent pressure and hot all the time.
I seriously have nothing bad to say about this place! I was here for 3 days and enjoyed my time here alot. The staff are very friendly and I got chatting to a few of them at the bar and had some drinks with them. They are glad to help at any time and have lots of information and tourist brochures/flyers on hand.
The location is also superb, a 2 minute walk from the main train station and about 8 minutes to Marienplatz and to the Hofbrahaus.
If you go to Munich, YOU MUST STAY HERE!
