TB tour through Kampen, a lot of history
Private meet up.
The information that Jan gave us is about the history of Kampen. It seems that Kampen is first named in the year 1227, but in the main church they found out that it was already existing in 1200. So maybe even older. (once there had been an Roman Church). Kampen became a Hanze city in the 14th century.
There are several important cities among the IJssel. To start with Doesburg, Zuthpen, Deventer , Zwolle and finally Kampen. This is the Hanze city I have never seen before. So a while ago I told Jan that Kampen was the last one I would like to see.
In the morning I tried to leave home, and Keiko called., Her train was delayed. It has to be. I just closed my internet so I was not able to help her. Therefore I called Jan. But he did not answer the phone. During our trip to Zwolle, I think Keiko sms t several times and called me on my cell phone. In the meantime I had spoken to Jan, and he thought she would make it to reach the connecting train to Kampen. But she did not. We were waiting also to travel together to Kampen. Half an hour to late we arrived in Kampen. We walked out of the station and saw the sign from another village. Then we walked towards the bridge. But we did not see Jan and Patricia.
Now our sightseeing tour could start. The first nice thing to see is the new bridge. With gold plated wheels. We were lucky because they lifted the bridge ( a part of it). Sightseeing means to us having coffee and a tosti in a very nice restaurant. Relaxing and talking! Jan made a very nice tour for us which he had put on paper, all kinds of historical facts where mentioned in it. And a few very nice postcards from Kampen. He really is a very good host.
We started to walk again I will try to remember the things I have seen, because there are a lot very nice and interesting buildings.
He also told us in the weekend from 19 or 20 december they will have a dickens scenery on the street. Christmas decoration and Old costumes. This must be very nice to see. You imagine walking in a fairytale book ages ago. This is the feeling you get when you visit this special event. Walking further we have seen a lot of old houses and very small streets. Can you imagine they lived there? Behind those houses is a public path which will lead you among the small gardens behind the houses. There used to be cows in the back of the houses.
Now we went to the Harbor with very old ships.
In another small alley there is a hole in the wall. Some famous person from Kampen told us what it was. The dutch word for the whole with the drain is : Gootsteen! It is literally a stone which will lead the dirty water out of the house. There are not much of them left in Holland. Patricia left at about 2 ‘
O clock so she could not join us to walk among the city.
After a short ride we arrived at the house of Jan. He gave me a very sweet glass of rose!! A special one!! Oh so sweet!! And we could sit and talk and Jan was preparing a very nice dinner for us.
Eventually it was time to sit at the table. Rice with a very nice chicken, gorgonzola, creamy sauce!!! For desert something not to sweet but very powerful creamy delicious food!! He did a great job!!!
It was time to leave, but first Coffee!! After this nice day, Jan brought us back to the train station.
Ha ha, no need to go there because the train cannot go any further, it has just one track!!!! Nice joke of Jan!!!! But it was a very nice day!
