It's thursday the 14th of may and Gejah, Mandy, Patricia and Keiko will come and visit my beautifull city Kampen, i will do my best the show them the interesting places and tell them about the history and my life in Kampen.
Kampen is a beautiful Hanseatic town, situated at the estuarium of the river IJssel.
There are about 36.000 inhabitants. The town has a very attractive river front, perhaps one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands, but that not only my opinium. Many mediaevel buildings, under which three gates, have been kept very well throughout the ages, and have been beautifully restored. Conservating its history is one of the formost important issues in Kampen. Famous are the mural advertisings, which are currently being preciously restored.
The pride of the town of Kampen, its rich Hanseatic history, is clearly present in many areas of the city centre.
Also present are the onions. Not to think of the well known vegetables which make us weep when cutting them, but in Kampen the onions have a special meaning. An onion means a mistake, and the onions of Kampen (= Kamper uien) are even well known as ludicrous, and even unfamous in the middle ages!
