The drive up Catalina Highway to Ski Valley

I did not know that what I had done for many years in my country as fun walking was refered to in the western world as a Hike. I did much fun walking, fun running, mountain climbing and tracking of wild animals and endangered species. Here in the United States, I have found I enjoy the hikes more and I have even joined hiking groups. This blog is dedicated to my hiking adventures worldwide.

The drive up Catalina Highway to Ski Valley

It is Sunday and the cyclists have an event - they are cycling up the Catalina highway to a designated stop point at the top of the mmountain. As we drove by we saw many of the cyclists who had started as early as 7:00 a.m.  coming down, while other went up hill. The weather was absolutely brilliant with the sun beaming beyond the mountains . . . the clouds continued to form as if the rain would fall, but the wind moved it well beyond the horizon. I had previously driven up the Catalina highway but only as far as 6000 feet in climb. Bill was the designated driver on this drive, Matt and I enjoyed the ride as Bill employed his many years of driving experience. The road is winding with pullouts at many turns for safety as well as viewing purposes.

To be continued . . .
