BEAR CANYON TRAIL HIKE & FULL MOON PICNIC: whoever heard of a picnic at night? In a canyon? Well, until today I never heard of such an inconceivable idea. Mr. X as usual came up with this incredible idea; invited the hiking team and I sent my RSVP to confirm attendance. There was to be a picnic after the hike with red wine watching the moon rise over the Catalina’s . . . Have you ever looked up in the night sky on a full moon, only to see the man on the moon peering down back at you? I do that when the moon is full and still wonder . . .
The full moon has always been a source of intrigue for me, as a child my mother told stories about the shadow on the moon: she said it was the man on the moon tiling his land in preparation for sowing of seeds: he has to eat you know! Since I never pursued it, I grew up believing there was actually a man on the moon.
Today my friend Joe picked me up and we headed to Sabino Canyon to rendezvous with our SAAC and X-Hiking group members to go on one of the most exciting hikes I have ever been on: The Full Moon Picnic Hike at Bear canyon.
We all met at the Sabino Canyon Visitor's centre at 6:30 pm. to allow for some cooling: it was 101 degrees Fahrenheit today in Tucson. At 6:30 it was down to the mid 80s and bearable with the breeze.
We hiked along the wash beds and made a brief stop at a water fall, the quiet (silence) and soft bird sounds were so interesting to be apart of. Since the night was quickly moving on, we hastened our hike with no more stops past the water falls.
Now I have plans to go hiking the Midnight madness at the Grand Canyon, exciting is the word!
