After the storm

We left our accidental Germany stop in Munster early this morning and headed to our original destination, Berlin. When we arrived 4 hours later it was 90 degrees and sunny, but quickly turned to drizzle then to a crazy rain and wind storm. During and after that we took the historic walking tour all around the city and saw Checkpoint Charley, the Berlin Wall, some of the East and West side as well as the hotel that Jackson made so famous holding the baby out of a few years ago and the fabulous churches and universities of old times and even some sad Holocaust memorials.

Took the subway to the other side of town (we have this public transportation thing down pat!) and found our hostel. It is inside an old German house, very pretty but slightly haunted.

We had one old room to ourselves, I think it may have been originally a study? Anyway it was clean and the hostel ladies were very nice and it even had free Internet. (Sheets cost 2 Euro but...) We explored our area till we got tired of walking and found a restaurant for our first real meal in a couple days. We usually snack on fruit and stuff we can pack in our bags and eat one authentic meal in each place. So we chose a tiny German restaurant we found on the walk complete with menus only in German and some kind of moose looking head on the wall. (For you honey!) I had Schnitzel with a baked potato and Kaylyn had some crazy named garlic and white wine chicken bake. Funny part was between the two of us and the waiter we knew words in 5 languages, but none of us knew the same ones!  We finally settled on Spanish and ended up ordering in a local German restaurant all in Spanish and even having a funny conversation with the waiters on where we were from and where was Missouri. The waiters all got a kick out of us American girls but understood us and even took our picture.

It started pouring like crazy again with lightning and swirling clouds when we got back to the hostel so we played in the courtyard in the rain, called that our shower and went to bed trying not to listen to the creaks and shadows of the old house. Goodnight from atop a hill in Berlin!
