Thursday 30th april

This morning we had breakfast in the hotel, we knew we had to pay for it, you can choose between continental and international. My husband likes to eat bacon and eggs, because at home we do not eat them as breakfast. I like the normal cold food. Than the surprise came!! The bill, my husband had not seen the price of the eggs and bacon! Ha ha.

It was rather expensive, about 17 $. But ok you are on a holiday and do not complain about that. The breakfast was good enough. After our breakfast we had to hurry to Capitol Hill, because we had an appointment with Andy (also from TB) we were supposed to meet him at the Statue of Freedom. So we took the metro from Dupont Circle to Union Station. From there it was a short walk to the visitor centre. But standing outside, asking ourselves where is the Statue of Freedom??? We have never been to Washington, so we have no clue. Walking around the square and not exactly knowing who would be Andy, we decided to ask the gatekeeper where the statue was. Oh, it was inside! So we went in. It was very busy inside the building, but lucky we found Andy in a second. So nice of him to take some time off  to guide us. He bought a very nice present for us. The Famous Door!! So after taking pictures from the building and each other we started to walk. Andy really knows a lot from Washington so it is very nice that he was our guide. But he had to be back at the office on time (I think he did not make it on time!) .
Statue of Freedom

Walking so long makes you hungry and thirsty, but where to go to? Lucky we had our private guide. He brought us to a place what the tourist did not know. On the front of the building was written 900(Government plaza). That is in fact a kind of mall with restaurants in it.

There we had a delicious sandwich.

After finishing the lunch Andy returned to the office, and we started to walk again. On this long road there are a lot of museum, the first one is the African museum. A little bit further you see a very beautiful botanic garden. It is called Samuels Garden. After taking a lot pictures we walked further again, along the Memorial Statue to The Lincoln Memorial. Completely exhausted we walked back to the hotel. There we had to take care of our damaged feet. In the meantime it was already 5.00pm so of to George town. This time we took a taxi. M district. There are several nice and very expensive shops. And a beautiful mall. Great architecture, amazing to see. And inside the mall you could enter the restaurant where we have been eating. This was the Clyde restaurant. Not bad but not good either. And then the both man thought it would be very nice to walk back again!! Grrrrr….. this was so far!!!  But ok I did manage to reach the hotel!!! How attractive can a bed be!! But if you think you can sleep well, no, in the middle of the night I woke up, because the porter knocked on the door opposite of us. She did not open the door, and the porter did warn her several times that he would call the police. And finally he did. I heard her getting arrested because she was screaming very loud and crying! So this is America!!
