Nairobi

With a group of Americans, Brian and Adriana, that i met last night, we travelled to Nairobi national park to visit the elephant orphanage. I am little los, at this point, on issues such as transport so Brian can sort that out all for us. Interestingly there’s very little Swahili flying around.
At the orphanage we listened to a talk by the staff , they really seemed to care about the animal and weren’t just there for a job. Spoke about one rehabilitated mother who came back with her calf for two weeks and a premature Rhino found suckling its dead mother. Great connection meant that we go to go see the elephants right up close, very friendly, got farted on by one of them!

Having arrived via Kenya in a daze of mind altering anti-malarials I am still awaiting the dust to settle, which can take a long time in the dusty plateau in which I'm living.
My time in Nairobi was a joy of considence and the an afirmation of what I expected all at the same time. The city stinks, experiences a minute by minute stampeed of trafic and had no running water during my time there. But, as with many of the hardest places on earth, is populated by some trurly wonderful people, indigenous and other wise.
I had the fortune of meeting an American NGO (NPO in the states) duo who had a connection at the local elephant orphanage which meant we got a private audiance with the little mites, who are about as friendly as an ant with a jam jar. They like to wrap their trunks around your arm and sniff you all the time, well until one of them farted on me.
They lived with a very young Rhino who had been born premature and was found suckling on his mother's corpse who had died in child birth due to human influence on the envroment. Everyone at the centre was true animal lover and a local too, who took their jobs very seriousily and obviousily had a very strong bond with the Elephant calfs who returned the affection equally. The elephants can consume roughly 12 litres of milk in one sitting, when we asked were they got all the milk from the career said, England, it's SMA!
My road journey across the bored was not as bad as I expected but akin to traveling over a cattle grid for 3 hours.
I will endevor to add more when i have the time and the internt connection.
Take care everyone.
