Checking Hotel Bills Quickly
December 16, 2007
Okay, so I thought that this little tidbit was widely known - however when I tabbed out my bar bill at the hotel the bartender asked why I rounded it the way that I di. I round all my hotel room charges so that they end in the number 6. I also try to do this will my AMEX bill so I can identify invalid charges quickly.
So basically what you want to do is adjust the amount of the tip so every item that's added to the bill ends with the same digit. Example - Tip odd amounts to have the bills end with the numeral six. It then takes only a moment to skim the hotel bill for items that don't end in six, and don't belong on your bill. I have read that the odds of a bill or charge ending in the number 6 are 9 to 1.
