I went to Mt. Haguro in Yamagata-ken, a northern part of Japan as well as a very local onsen nearby my family's hometown in Fukushima-ken, a countryside between Yamagata-ken and Tokyo. I enjoyed a locan train trip for 11hours/one way. I had no choice due to a lack of money, but really enjoyed a countryside scinery from train's window. Also cherry blossoms!

A local train trip to Yamagata-ken for 11 hours

We took a local slow train from Tokyo to north on 7:15am, and changed several times to get to YH at Sanze station at Yamagata-ken. I really like a local train trip. It was funny that the number of cars got to be fewer as we got further from Tokyo. At the end we took a train with three cars, which only the local use. I liked a view from window, rice field and local traditional style houses, so relaxing.

On a way we passed several stations at tunnel. It was funny. It was like a subway station but not really, how to describe, like an underground station.

YH was nice. It was located a bit far from one of the very local stations. Just like other YH, price was reasonable and food was simple and nice. It was interesting that the YH offered microbiotic food. I am not really into it but it seems popular recently. There is no meat but only vegetables and rice. Cake made of tofu was also served with nature something tea.

Actually I do not really know about microbiotic but it seems like a veg meal style. very simple meal. It is funny that they make it business in Tokyo by tagging so high price but in countryside it is just nothing because it's a daily meal there.

Ah, YH = Youth Hostel. Now I get it :-)
Sounds like a nice little trip Junko. I wish I was there too. But, what is microbiotic food really?
