Early Mother's Day
AM: We’re celebrating Mother’s Day a little early today and heading to Flip Burger Boutique for lunch. It’s not your traditional spot for Mother’s Day, but we figured we’d try something new. My philosophy today is “life is short, eat dessert first.” That’s why I’m heading straight for one of these crazy milkshakes I’ve been hearing about. That is, if I can get my group to get ready. My mom isn’t known for being punctual, so who knows what time we’ll actually get out of here. I am looking forward to some good old burgers after having African food last night.
I’m not sure what I’ll be doing tonight. My mom really wants me to come to their square dance. They are going to have a band play and a potluck. I guess I might take one for the team if she’s really that excited about me coming. Last time I went with them in Gatlinburg, everyone in their group was thrilled to have a young person there. I’m just hoping they don’t try to make me dance. Swing your partner round and round! Now promenade! It still cracks me up that my parents square dance. I mean really, how many people do you know that do that?
PM: It looks like I won’t be going out with my parents this evening so I’ll be free to make my way around town. I’ll be getting up early to head down to Biloxi, so I better not stay up too late.
The décor is urban chic. Seating is provided in long communal tables where some guests choose to talk with their “neighbors” while other patrons stick to themselves. There’s also bar seating around the perimeter where you can order cocktails or view one of the many tvs framed with white picture frames. On one wall, there is cushy, white leather seating that extends from the floor to ceiling. There’s also a patio with bursts of brightly colored pillows at each seat. On the interior, one wall is painted with an eclectic mural. Basically, there is plenty to take in with all your senses.
The uprising thing about Flip is that it’s actually family friendly while being chic. In the same room, you could see families, couples on a date and singles having a drink. It was a nice mix. In the end, it may have been a high calorie meal, but it was worth every bite.
