Little Italy

On Friday we would go back home again but late in the afternoon so we had some time in the morning to see a little bit more in this incredible city. We didn't see Chinatown yet ( we only drove trough it with the hop on - hop off bus a few days earlier ) but we didn't really check it out. We hadn't seen Little Italy either and since i'm an Italy lover we just HAD to go there! So we went there our last day after breakfast. It was the first day in our trip that it wasn't 90 fahrenheit or more so that was really a blessing. Even more when we saw that Chinatown is actually a fishmarket, a least a part of it but it smells like all of Chinatown is a fishmarket. It was fun to see though. I had never seen one like this before. The fish were even alive when they were sold and packed! At least is fresh! And the frogs.

The market in Chinatown
.. there were buckets full of frogs. The Chinese people who wanted to buy a frog just took one living frog with there bare hands and threw it back when the one wasn't good enough. I don't know why but they pull the legs of the frogs to see if they want to buy them. Really interesting. The name Little Italy is really chosen well because it isn't that big. Only a few streets. You don't really see markets or shops like in Chinatown. There are actually a lot of restaurants and only a few shops. I suppose Little Italy was a lot bigger years ago because the Italian population in NYC was huge then. I think the Chinese got a lot of the space now that was Little Italy before.

We moved on and took some fishmarket with us under our shoes. At least the smell of it. We moved on to the Brooklyn Bridge. We had already seen it before while we were on the ferry but someone told us you could actually walk on the bridge in the middle part of it. It was really nice because you have a nice look at the bridge this way and the view of Manhattan is also amazing. I was really glad we had this walk because it was really fun!
