At the hostel.
In an internet cafe and actually on an old fashioned computer that's not a laptop, what a nice change!
Sooo, last night was the pub crawl. 20 euro for a free shot at each bar, free entry, free bar at one place, and a mini night tour, was awesome! Met at the hostel bar and had a shot of vodka and cranberry and got talking to this lovely couple from Buffalo, USA. Jill and Tim, who got married in February I think and this is their honeymoon. On the walk I got talking to an Italian girl called Maria who is 30 and didn't speak much English but liked to practice with simple small talk. Our tour guide, Tad, was from Idaho and was hilarious. Like telling stories of some sculptor who didn't want to make a fountain for the Pope...."and like he said do it bitch, I'm the fucking Pope!" And just in general like "Yeah Casanova hung out on the Spanish steps, so the Italians of today try to get girls too so they make little kissy noises and once you gain eye contact they just follow you around and Giuseppe or Fredrico is all 'you comea ona mya scootera and meeta my mothera' and like you will, Italians live with their mothers till they're like.
...50......" haha made me giggle! So had a night view of that and then went to the Trevi
, which is gorgeous at night and he told us a really freaky ghost story. I won't go into too much detail coz I don't care if it's fake, it scared me! This boy who was the son of the rich family who live in the palace at Trevi fountain was like the Paris Hilton of the time "Hopping out of horse-drawn carridges with no underwear on and having people paint him" (Gotta love Tad!) And he was hated and pushed out of a window, with clear signs of a struggle, but the Pope hated him and said "Suicide, case closed" so he haunts the place now. Scary stuff at night when you can see the window has been bricked over and painted to look like a window.
Just washed my hair for the first time hehe so soft!
...there's a photo of that. Also got Jill to take a few pics of me at these places coz I could trust her with my camera and I took pictures of her and Tim. Swapped Facebooks so I can steal her pics too, which was nice =)
So then on to the bars! Got a stamp at bar number one, James was our guide for the drinking part and he was also American, can't remember where abouts. Got a free shot of limoncello on entry and a stamp for a free bar, which was awesome! We all sat in the back and I got chatting to a New Yorker called Matt, and god his accent was amazing! He's studying psychology and is touring Italy over summer with his friends. There was another Matt there too from North Carolina and he studies in Copenhagen and is basically here on a holiday.
So when Tiny Dancer came on (the cue to move outside and head on) we all got another drink and walked with it (yes, drinking in the streets!) to the next place.
Spanish Steps at night (yes, they're there!)
Free shot on arrival again, of god knows what, and Tim bought me a drink. Didn't see any more of Maria as she was dancing with some guy. I say dancing, more like literally having sex right there on the dancefloor. They dissapeared soon after, clearly to go home for a cup of cocoa.....
Next was the last stop, more of a club. Bumped into Luke and his friend (agh I forget his name, done well otherwise though!) who are staying at my hostel, the guy who let me borrow the ipod charger yesterday. They were on another pub crawl and got free tshirts, booo =( So had a wee drink and a wee dance, talking to Christina and her friend from....I can't even remember, America I think, and she was the spitting image of a girl I know called Lauren. So I was dancing, feeling too drunk but still had my hand on my bag and my "anti-advantage-takers" sensor beam on.
The window of the ghost story at Trevi Fountain.
The circle I was dancing with was pairing off and this bald guy was trying to dance with me, which I did until he tried to kiss me and I wasn't interested so I said "Sorry, I'm gay. You're really nice though!" and he made a swift exit haha. Only after one thing, clearly. When I took a picture of me and him I went to kiss his cheek in a drunken friendly manner and he turned so the picture is of him kissing my chin hehe!
I wandered....staggered....to the bar and put my drink down, didn't want to be that drunk and just left and sat outside. The bus stop was just round the corner but I was gonna go home with people from my hostel. I sat on the ground outside, and phoned Luci to try and sober me up a little. I was looking down and Luke came over to see if I was crying or being sick or something haha.
At Trevi fountain at night.
Once I'd hung up I got talking to this guy Nick and we watched as Luke's friend puked all down himself, poor show! We walked to the bus stop and it started raining....in Rome, wtf! And this guy Gerard gave me a cigarette (Sorry mum!) and yelled at me when I said "Gerald? No? Aaah, like Gerard Way?" hehe. (Note for mum....singer in the band My Chemical Romance). So we waited and a Californian who lives here and works as a tour guide showed up and said all the night busses were free. I don't know if he means actually free or just....no one cares. But we got on and I hiccuped alllll the way home, much to the guys amusement! And no one asked for any money, score! So they walked me back to the hostel, I said bye and tried to quietly get into the cage under my bed to sort out my stuff, drunk, and try not wake my room mates!
No hangover today, thank god! Got up early and tried to get breakfast but wasn't hungry so just had a red bull and got on the train to Nettuno where Mary stays.
A bad picture of the Trevi at night.
Had such a fun day, she is SO chatty which helps! Got a chinese for lunch (mmmmm!) and took a walk through the port and all the nice old nooks and crannies of the town, was nice! Weather wasn't that nice, just like a nice day at home. Grey and a breeze, but not like an icy breeze we get at home and there was still a bit of heat but no sun. Rained a few times too. Was a nice break and it was windier because we were by the sea but sun would have been nice. The beach is like literally on her doorstep and it wonld have been nice to sunbathe or go for a wee swim. Oh well!
Her place is just the right size for one person, not too big or too small. And she loved hearing about the boys and my mum and loved that I have pictures on my phone and itouch to show her.
Me, Tim, Jill!
We got pizza slices and went to sit in her friend Silviana's which is the most fascinating place I've ever been to! You turn off the streed down a tunnel and it's almost like you enter another world, old fashioned, traditional Rome! It looks like an old farm house, has a few cadged birds and one talking parrot that talks in Italian and kept saying "let's go!" hehe. So we had our pizza and another older man joined us and Mary translated a bit as they didn't speak a word of English, and Mary knows both. I picked up a few things to be able to say the odd word, but I just enjoyed sitting there, listening to the three chatting away, not having a clue, but loving listening to the conversation from people who don't speak English! It was time to go as Mary has a girls night out tonight so we said goodbye and she walked me to the train station.
North Carolina Matt.
I turned and said (excuse the spelling....) "Gratzi per una bella giourna!" Which roughly means "Thanks for a lovley day!" so chuffed hehe. She corrected me every now and again but loved that I picked things up. Like talking to Silvia and she said something like "Inglese en Americano parle tutti le monda" which I interrupted and said "English and American is spoken all over the world....?" and she just smiled and said I was really good!
So got the train home and found this internet cafe which is good, saves hassle waiting for one in the hostel. Now I'm going to upload my pictures and go get something to eat coz I'm starving again, all I've been doing is walking about all day!
