Ok so wrong country and mountain range, but with the sun shining brightly we left Le Houga to go to Lourdes to pick up two friends from the airport on the way to the Pyrenees.
After navigating our way through Lourdes we were on our way, winding round the mountains upwards! As you turn a corner after leaving Luz-St-Sauveur you are greeted by a great view of a Pont Napoleon. The bridge towers above the Gave du Pau River, there is a small path leading down from the Bridge were you can see the beginnings of a Via Ferrata route, as you reach the bottom the scenery is beautiful. We didn't partake in any climbing but there were plenty of people brave enough to head up the route which finished with a spectacular zip wire.
After a bit of playing on the rocks and a very steep walk back to the car, we carried on our journey.
We carried on up past the buzzards sour almost level with the car, and past the cows in the middle of the road, past the ski lifts until the road stopped. It was amazing, above the clouds we stopped for our picnic lunch and took in some fresh mountain air. I wanted to do the short walk to the Cirque do Gavarnie but was quickly out voted by my flip flop wearing friends (I had to try).
On the way down we stopped to get a quick shot of the Marmots, which had me chasing them all over to get a semi-decent shot! Then returned to Gavarnie, for a toilet stop, quick look round the two touristy walking shops and an Ice Cream. All in all a nice day out :)
